GSN and WorldWinner Kick off Search for the World's Best Casual Gamers
WorldWide Web Games (W3Games) Challenges Game Enthusiasts to Test Themselves in the Ultimate Online Games Championship
NEWTON, MA and SANTA MONICA, CA -- JANUARY 27, 2009 -- GSN and WorldWinner (www.worldwinner.com) today threw down the gauntlet with the launch of the 2009 WorldWide Web Games (W3Games) championship series. Building off its tradition of putting winning within reach for serious competitors and casual players alike, GSN is giving the most skilled game enthusiasts the chance to compete for a World Champion title and their share of a $100,000 prize. The W3Games Championship will offer game lovers an opportunity to experience the ultimate thrill of competition and see where they rank in several of their most beloved online games. The tournaments will be powered by WorldWinner, a GSN-affiliated site and provider of online game competitions.
"Think you could rival the world's best in Wheel of Fortune? Love Solitaire Rush and want to know whether you are among the top players? Now's your chance," said Christian Meyer, chief marketing officer of WorldWinner and senior vice president of Marketing, GSN Digital. "The W3Games is our way of challenging every game lover out there--from the stay-at-home mom who has perfected her Wheel of Fortune skills to the computer programmer in Dallas who has mastered Bejeweled 2--to prove they're the best of the best in their given game."
Meyer continued, "It's only fitting that we're kicking off the series with Solitaire, the game that arguably created the casual games category and is consistently the most popular game on WorldWinner. Now, 20 years later with more than 100 million people playing online games every month, we're ushering in a new era of competitive entertainment."

The 2009 W3Games will be a year-long series of online game tournaments featuring four marquee titles -- Solitaire Rush, Bejeweled 2, Wheel of Fortune and Big Money -- each with a $100,000 prize pool. The first tournament, Solitaire Rush, begins on March 2. Several additional tournaments with prize pools ranging between $10,000 and $50,000 will be announced throughout the year.
GSN and WorldWinner first partnered in 2006 to host the WorldWide Web Games. The event culminated in 69 game lovers competing live in Hollywood and one highly skilled player walking away with the title of W3Games Champion. The newly revamped W3Games series will include more titles and pave the way for more winners than ever before. Each tournament will crown one World Champion, and the top 32 finishers in each are guaranteed a portion of that game's prize pool. The series' winnings will total more than $500,000 collectively.
"I'm thrilled that GSN and WorldWinner are bringing back the W3Games," said Kavitha Shah, 2006 W3Games Champion. "As a 21-year-old aspiring lawyer, I surprised a lot of people--including myself -- when I won the championship title in 2006. GSN and WorldWinner continue to open the door to unexpected champions like me, and I can't wait for another chance to vie for a crown against an even fiercer set of competitors."
